Biography *

Alec Avedissian, an Austro-Bulgarian baritone, is currently participating in the 2024/25 season in a new production of Rossini’s Cinderella at the Essen Opera in Germany, performing the role of Dandini and German requiem with Sofia Philharmonic Orchestra. From 2016 to 2023, he is a member of the ensemble at the Tyrolean State Theatre in Innsbruck, where he portrayed roles such as Count Almaviva (The Marriage of Figaro), Don Giovanni, Tarquinius (The Rape of Lucretia), and Papageno (The Magic Flute), among others. He has worked with renowned conductors like Jean-Christophe Spinosi, Michel Plasson, Raphael Pichon, Leif Segerstam and directors such as Marco Arturo Marelli and Barbe&Doucet.
Alec Avedissian has performed on opera stages across Europe, including Sofia, Montpellier, Avignon, Toulouse, Florence, Malmö, Essen and Hanover.
He has also collaborated with the celebrated Bulgarian pianist Ruzhka Charakchieva on recordings for Bulgarian National Radio.
He trained under mezzo-soprano Alexandrina Milcheva and participated in masterclasses by Renato Bruson and Kiri Te Kanawa. His vocal preparation has been closely guided by Krasimira Stoyanova and Sherman Lowe in recent years. During his studies at the Sofia Music Academy, he won first prizes at international competitions Elena Nikolai and Pancho Vladigerov, as well as third prize at Teatro Lirico Sperimentale in Spoleto, Italy. From 2007-2009 Alec Avedissian is a soloist at the young artist program CNIPAL in Marseille, France.
In 2013, Alec Avedissian was recognized as Bulgaria’s Best Young Performer with the Crystal Lyre award.
